It’s only been a little over a year since partial renovation of the Olive Hill Historical Society was completed. In that year’s time OHHS has burst onto the scene in a big way really making renovation of the gymnasium and part of the middle floor count with numerous activities such as two Christmases on the Hill, Homecoming on the Hill, an art craft fair, various art classes, a tribute to Matthew B. Sellers, theatrical performances and much more. The members of the Historical Society has definitely taken a “we can” attitude even before it became vogue.

So much more is planned, and the rest of the building is needed in order to contain all the activities as well as being able to fully serve Carter County. Completion of the upstairs library would be ideal as a conference and information room. A Carter County history wing is intended. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

Favorable conditions have now arisen to finish the dream. The Olive Hill Historical Society has an excellent opportunity with a shovel ready project to qualify for stimulus monies being made available. The money if awarded would assure complete restoration of our Kentucky designated landmark, and thus provide immediate construction jobs.

Supporting the Olive Hill Historical Society is a powerful act that helps you to have a direct impact on the community and the world in which you live. The events such as theatrical performances, musical performances, art classes and exhibits, music classes, and other special programs and projects currently being held and planned for on “The Hill” provide a basic foundation in our community. The Historical Society has already been and will continue to be an important venue and source for innovation and pride for our area.

Small communities are our future more than ever in these changing times. The Olive Hill Historical Society is with a growing number of enthusiastic members implementing a new way of seeing our region. We ask your participation more than ever.

Help us reach our goal. YOUR COMMENT BELOW WILL HELP US WITH OUR PETITION! To show how you feel about the future of continued programs and usage of the old high school building, please show your support by writing, calling or emailing your representative.
