Artist Statement

Joe Sartor was born in Missouri and received his BA degree from Centenary College in Louisiana. He served a stint in the US Army, and completed his Master of Arts degree at the University of Missouri at Columbia. He has lived in Kentucky since 1968, where he taught art for 33 years as Associate Professor of Art at Morehead State University, and recently retired to pursue his love of music, theatre, and painting.

Joe is the current President of the Cave Run Arts Association. He has taught local workshops in studio art sponsored by the CRAA, adjudicated regional and state exhibits, participated in numerous showings, and collected Best of Show Awards throughout the region. He is regularly Artist in Residence at the CRAA public gallery and studio space on Main Street in Morehead, Kentucky.

Joe says: I tend to regard my work as therapeutic. It is what I enjoy doing. It isn’t intended to be private, but if it were I think it would still benefit my will to live a productive life. If someone else enjoys my efforts, or shows interest, then it is even more fulfilling.

Instructor - Joe Sartor

Instructor - Eddie Horton

Eddie, a graduate of Morehead State University and once a student of Joe Sartor, resides in Morehead, KY with his wife Kathy.

Eddie excels in wood-working and most forms of art. At MSU he was an exceptional art student.  His love of clay prompted him into starting a pottery business with fellow students Jeff Burr and Sam McKinney.

His woodworking skills helped him build from scratch his log cabin home containing many artistic elements making it quite unique.

Eddie, now semi-retired, works part time at Harold White Lumber Company in Morehead, which gives him more time to practice his art.

Eddie is a member of the Cave Run Arts Association.
